Partnership

The relationship between Europe and South America, is considered to be one of the most powerful partnerships since the first 'bi-regional Summit in Rio de Janeiro held in Brazil during 1999'.

• Both continents share historical, cultural and economic ties, providing a strong relation between them.
• Within South America, majority of their population speak European languages such as Spanish, Portuguese and even French, providing a close connection to Europe.
• They both share “common commitment to human rights, democracy, and multilateralism, and determined European support for Latin American efforts at economic and social reform as well as regional integration processes (Eurunion 2006)”.
