EU-LAC Summit, May 2006



In May 2006, European and Latin American/ Caribbean leaders congregated in Vienna at the fourth Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Summit to consider ways in which they could strengthen their bi-regional relationship.

Before the Vienna Summit, the Europe Commission renewed its policies with regards to South America, which were adjusted to contend with new challenges; in order to strengthen the EU-Latin America and Caribbean partnership. In December 2005, Europe had adopted practical objectives to strengthen the bi-regional relationship by increasing political discourse, encouraging economic and commercial exchanges, stimulating regional integration, developing their regions, preventing inequality and exclusion and finally aid policy more closely to local conditions in Latin America.
